COHABITAR SONORO – Genesis Victoria

Cohabitar Sonoro~ (Sound Inhabit) was an art residence placed in Lota, a town in the South of Chile (January 14 – 21, 2018). This emblematic town has several social and environmental problems such as pollution, waste, poverty and education. These are related to historical and economic development, intensified by patriarchy and neo-colonialism. All of these contrast with the beautiful landscapes of shoreline and its flora and fauna.

Nine Sound Artists and Performers reunited to develop and artwork in Puerto Nuevo, an old squatted territory at the coast of Lota placed between train tunnels. This place has a variety of soundscapes provided by the daily living: sea, woods, birds, stray dogs and especially the train that cross literally outside the houses of Puerto Nuevo with no schedule. This train transport materials and pieces of stuff to the Celulosa Arauco plant, presumed as the main source of contamination and impoverishment of the area.

On this occasion, different workshops were imparted and provided new tools for the participants. These were related to media and body, where different software and technics were revisited (Grasshopper, Pure data and Moldeo (an OS project http://moldeo.org/) and overtone singing technics)

The final work exhibitions were a performative circuit for emblematic public places in Puerto Nuevo such as the fortress viewpoint, the fisherman port, passageways, train tunnels and the bay. These actions established a dialog with the territory aesthetic and problematics, creating ephemeral art events.

The different poetics were traced by experimentation with voice, dispositives, interfaces, microphones, acoustics, mapping, and so on.

Cohabitar Sonoro was a self-organized project of Cohabitar, curated by Genesis Victoria and hosted by CasaTrewa, experimental art residency.

COHABITAR SONORO~ (V) 14 – 21 DE ENERO . Colcura, Lota.

A partir de una resonancia generada desde Cohabitar IV, la promesa de retornar a Colcura se hizo cada vez más presente. El territorio y su diversidad de paisajes acústicos es un campo abierto para el trabajo artístico-sonoro: el mar, el bosque y el tren, los túneles, las casas y pasajes, la playa, los relatos son lugares de emergencia, vibración. También sus memorias e historias construyen un imaginario poético.

En este sentido, Co-Habitar dispositivo performativo en conjunto con CasaTrewa residencia experimental, convoca a la quinta versión de la residencia, donde la experiencia estará motivada por el territorio y su habitar sonoro:

La sonoridad es una manera de habitar que desafía el ojo-centrismo. La escucha es nuestro vínculo con el mundo y su trama sensible. A través de dispositivos hacemos emerger esta trama, generando diálogos sensoriales, donde se suspende la individualidad. En la experiencia sonora mutamos en otros, corporalidades expandidas, efímeras, resonantes. Desde la experiencia aural el mundo se despliega en nosotros, con nosotros. El territorio se vuelve vibrátil, posible. También la memoria se eleva entre las voces y frecuencias. Retorna y se transforma, se resignifica.

Desde el 14 al 21 de enero del 2018, Cohabitar Sonoro (V) invitará a experiencias, talleres y performances sonoras abierta a la comunidad de Colcura. Cada uno de los habitantes de la residencia tendrá que exponer tanto su trabajo artístico como un colaborar con un pequeño taller donde comparta sus conocimientos. También se espera una gran acción colectiva o una serie de acciones colaborativas de los residentes en los últimos días de residencia.
